About Frugal Kitty

Welcome to my blog, thank you for stopping by!

Where it started

Hi, I’m Laura, the creator of Frugal Kitty—a space dedicated to honest product reviews focusing on quality, affordability, and tangible results. I want to find you the best products without spending a fortune. I love to try both new and long-established products, especially in the health and beauty area.

This blog was started during a time when I needed a new challenge and creative outlet. I’ve always been a careful shopper, researching products extensively before committing to a purchase. I love reading reviews, comparing options, and hunting down the best value—so I decided to share my own carefully researched findings to hopefully help others.

Why Frugal Kitty?

I’ve been passionate about beauty and wellness for as long as I can remember. Now in my 40s—and after finally winning a long battle with rosacea—I’ve realized how much pressure there is to buy the latest, trendiest products. But the truth? Most of them don’t do much more than what’s already on the market.

My mission is to cut through the marketing hype and find truly effective products—without a ridiculous price tag. Whether it’s a hidden gem in the supermarket or a splurge-worthy treat, I’ll help you separate the must-haves from the overhyped. Oh, and I love a good discount code and free gift with purchase, so I’ll always keep an eye out for the best deals to share!

Aside from my love of smart spending, the name is inspired by my two furry co-workers, who take their roles as Professional Assistants (PAs) very seriously. Not only do they supervise my writing by sitting on the keyboard, they also enforce cuddle breaks and are amazing listeners. Unlike the cats, I aim to make my reviews as fluff free as possible, I’m not here to waffle on for the sakes of a word count. I like to get to the point quickly.

A Bit More About My Background

I’m not an aesthetician or dermatologist—but I am an NHS doctor with 18 years of experience. While my background isn’t in skincare formulation, I know how to research, analyze, and critically evaluate products based on science, ingredients, and real-world effectiveness. As a busy mum with a challenging job, I am also partial to products or tools that make life in general easier, and I love to share these if I think they will also bring value to someone else.

I’ll never recommend anything I don’t genuinely believe in or personally use. Since everyone’s skin and needs differ, I’ll always highlight what might work best for different skin types. So, if you’re looking for honest, well-researched beauty and wellness reviews, tips, and deals, you’re in the right place!

FAQs

Common questions answered!

No, I don’t have formal qualifications in beauty or skincare—but I am a dedicated consumer who loves researching products to find the best of the best. My medical background helps me analyze ingredients and understand how products work, but I don’t provide medical advice—just honest, well-researched reviews based on my personal experience.

Integrity is incredibly important to me, so I’m always 100% honest in my reviews. That said, we’re all unique—what works wonders for me might not be the perfect fit for you. There’s no single product that’s universally loved by everyone, which is exactly why there are gazillions of options out there!

No, definitely not. We have probably all heard the saying ‘buy cheap, buy twice’. I don’t aim to find the cheapest items but those that offer fantastic value for money. Occasionally, I splurge on more expensive purchases when my research suggests that it is likely to be worth it. I have been caught out so many times buying something cheap that just did not work and ended up being a complete waste of money. This is why I like to research carefully and tend to avoid impulse buys. I’m only human though and love a good haul from B&M or Home Bargains 😊

The vast majority of the time, yes! However, for products I haven’t personally tested, I rely on thorough research, ingredient analysis, and trusted consumer reviews to give an informed opinion. I also have sensitive and rosacea prone skin so have to be careful with what I try. I will make it clear when I have not personally tried a product and am only basing my opinion on other people’s reviews. On the whole I only recommend things that I have personally tried and loved.

All opinions expressed on this blog are my own. I do not publish sponsored posts, but I may use affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you purchase through them—at no extra cost to you. If this is the case I will make this clear and you are under no obligation to buy from the clicky link at all!

I only recommend products I genuinely love and have personally researched or tested. My reviews are always honest, and my integrity is my top priority. While it would be a dream come true for a brand I already love to reach out to and offer new products to try, this will never influence my opinions. Your trust means everything to me!
