Aveeno Soothing Skin Care

Aveeno Skincare – A Quick Review of Three Products

Aveeno is a brand that had been on my radar for some time, but I had always placed it in the ‘functional but not exciting’ category. Whenever I do a haul from Boots, I typically end up choosing other brands instead. However, after experiencing ongoing issues with my rosacea and finding that many products were aggravating my skin, I decided to strip my routine back to basics. Aveeno’s reputation for gentle, skin-friendly formulas seemed like a good place to start, so I picked up three of their products in the hope of finding a simple and calming skincare solution.

Aveeno is known for catering to sensitive skin, with a focus on oat-based ingredients that help balance the skin’s microbiome while soothing and hydrating dry or irritated skin. I managed to get a 3 of 2 offer at Boots, meaning I wouldn’t lose out too much if I did not get on with them. Here’s my take on each one

Aveeno Cleanser

This creamy cleanser is nice for a morning cleanse and contains prebiotic oat and calming feverfew. It does not foam up, which I like because foaming cleansers invariably agitate my rosacea. I don’t find that this removes eye make-up well, so I only use it for a morning cleanse. Reviews on the Boots website are quite polarised, with some users loving it and others finding it drying and irritating. Fortunately, it did not irritate or dry my skin, but it also didn’t impress me. I don’t think I will repurchase this, but it will get used up.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Triple Oat Serum

This serum features a triple oat complex designed to soothe irritation and reinforce the skin’s moisture barrier. It has a light, slightly runny consistency that absorbs fairly quickly into the skin. As directed, I applied it after cleansing and before moisturizing.

It is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, which is always a plus for sensitive skin. The good news? It did not irritate my skin at all. It felt cooling upon application, but once it dried, I noticed a slightly tacky feeling that I wasn’t a huge fan of.

Unfortunately, beyond not causing irritation, I didn’t feel that this serum made a noticeable difference to my skin. While it’s gentle and soothing, I personally find other serums—like peptide-based ones or azelaic acid—a bit more effective in delivering tangible results for my rosacea. For that reason, I wouldn’t repurchase the serum again.

Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturiser

This is a lightweight gel-cream moisturizer designed to provide intense hydration. It contains feverfew, known for its calming and antioxidant properties, alongside prebiotic oat to help repair the skin’s moisture barrier. Like the serum, it is also fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, though I did detect a faint scent. It wasn’t unpleasant and quickly dissipated.

I really liked the texture of this moisturizer—it felt cool and comfortable on my skin. While it did a good job of keeping my skin hydrated, I see it as more of a spring/summer moisturizer rather than one for colder months. I prefer a richer, creamier consistency in winter to make my skin feel more protected against the elements. I felt this moisturizer on the whole was fine – functional and did the job at a reasonable price.

Final Thoughts

Aveeno is undoubtedly a great brand for sensitive skin, and its products generally receive numerous positive reviews online. While I appreciate their gentle approach, I didn’t find a significant role for the serum in my routine, and the moisturiser, while nice, didn’t excite me enough to become a staple. I do, however, find this range soothing and certainly worth a try if you have sensitive skin. For now, though, I’ll likely explore other brands that catch my eye or stick with my tried and tested favourites from Geek & Gorgeous.
